Coral reef degradation has become a very problematic issue for environmental sustainability recently. Structures supporting the ecosystem in which many marine life forms must survive are disappearing due to adverse climate change. The Monaco government, without being indifferent, plans to print solutions to improve this situation using an incremental method.

The technological partner of the enterprise is the Dutch company Boskalis, which has already produced structures weighing 2,500 kg. A single element required 13 hours of work using dolomite sand and volcanic ash. The official installation was announced by the Monaco government in early November 2017.

A team of divers using the boat and supplied equipment gently left the synthetic reef to the bottom of Larvatto Bay in metal cages with balloons that helped to hold them in the right position. The whole operation was successful.
